was Mohenjodaro a civilization or not?
Government
_____ |
Government
is a way a colony, settlement, or city rules an area. It is very challenging to
find out how the Mohenjodaro civilization had ruled themselves. Because masks worn by the ancient kings were
found, people thought that these artifacts had a role in government, but it is
unclear because we are not sure what the masks were used for. The only thing
that archeologists know for sure about this topic is that must be a
sophisticated form of government to run an area of large people, in this case a
population of about 35,000.

Religion
is a belief of a region, city, or group. Archeologists aren’t exactly sure what
religion the Mohenjo-Daro believed in,
but they guess Hinduism. This artifact represents the Hinduism religion because
there is a bull, and Brahman is the sacred bull and creator of Hinduism. The
most prominent animal on this Mohenjo-Daro seal Also, archeologists believe
Mohenjo-Daro people were polytheistic because there are many different animals
that are believed to have been gods.

Social Structure
|
Social Structure are ranks of different people in a city or settlement. This chart explains the four ranks in the Mohenjo-Daro civilization Brahmins were priests and kings, and were the highest rank. Next were the Kshatriyas, the people who were aristocrats, rulers, and warriors. Then were the Vaishyas, the farmers, artisans, and merchants. Last are the Shudras, the peasants and serfs. They had followed the caste system of the Hinduism religion. The Vedas, sacred Hindu scriptures states that every varna, (class) is obligated to do a job.

Technology
|
Technology creates more ease in life. The picture on the left explains the Mohenjo-Daro technology because it shows the sewage system. The sewage system allowed water to flow create a steady irrigation system, and took waste out of houses. The waste would move in the channels down the streets. Soon the sewage and waste would empty itself in the Indus River. Mohenjo-Daro’s complex system included pipes, drains, and wells.

Stable Food Supply
|
While studying the ancient civilization of Mohenjo-Daro, archeologists have found weights and scales with little parcels of wheat and barley, which tells us that these artifacts were used for stable food supply. Archeologists suggest that cultivators or artisans ground grain into flour to trade with using a weight. These people worked in a granary, a place to store grain. Also, grain might have been used for currency. Ancient Indians would use a scale to see how much grain someone should pay for goods. It would be collected as taxes.

Art
|
One of the artifacts on the left is a sculpture of what some people think is an interpretation of a priest or king in the time of Mohenjo-Daro. Some believe he is a king or priest because of his confident stance and the clothing he appears to be wearing which is a robe. Not only did the Mohenjo-Daro people make sculptures, but the women and the bead makers would use kilns to bake beads to create jewelry like earrings and bracelets.
